UNYANZ Mission Statement

Become a Member Minimize

Who can become a member?
Just about anyone who agrees with the Association's objectives, and is either:

  1. Aged between 13 and 25; or
  2. A full-time tertiary student (of any age).

So, if you share UNYANZ's enthusiasm and commitment to the United Nations and its ideals, then become a member now!

How do I join?
Simple: Fill in the online membership form below.  Subject to the National Executive's approval, you will become a member.

If you have any problems with the form, email us, and we'll sort it out.

Alternatively, you can become a member by registering to attend one of our events, or by filling in a hard-copy membership form and mailing it to us.

Why become a member?
Several reasons!

First, becoming a member means that you can attend UNYANZ events and join UNYANZ delegations to overseas conferences.  If you aren't already a member when you attend one of our conferences, then you'll become a member by registering for it.

Second, you'll be added to our email database, so we will send you information about upcoming events and opportunities within UNYANZ and in other organisations who we are closely affiliated with.  You'll be the first to know about upcoming social events, Model UNs, and overseas delegations.

Third, you'll be able to vote for UNYANZ office-holders, and even run for positions on event teams, regional councils, or the national executive, and so help to shape the future of UNYANZ.

Fourth, you'll help UNYANZ!  While membership is free, we still get a lot out of our membership figures.  Even though we don't earn any money from memberships, when we approach sponsors, the media, or other NGOs, the more members we have, the more effect we can have.

As a member you also get to share your thoughts and experiences with other like minded youth from around New Zealand at UNYANZ events or through the UNYANZ website.

For more information about what UNYANZ does, and what you can do as a member of UNYANZ, take a moment to browse our website.

What does it cost me to join?
Nothing!  From 2010, UNYANZ membership is free.

Previously, UNYANZ membership cost $10 per annum.  If you paid $10  and sent in an old membership form during the transition period, hoping to becoming a 2010 member, email us.

What will you use my details for?
Just to contact you.  We will not pass your email address or any other details on to anyone else without your permission.  We need your contact details for our membership database, and check your date of birth to confirm that you're eligible to be a member.

And don't worry - we won't flood your email inbox.  We send out emails roughly once every month.  Or even every two months, because we don't want to waste our members' time with excessive messages.

Sometimes, we'll send you emails more frequently, but that will only be if there are opportunities or events within UNYANZ that we think are relevant to you and believe you will be interested in.

Do I have to do anything if I join?
No!  While you can attend our events, you don't have to.  Becoming a member means that you can't act inconsistently with the UNYANZ constitution (which you probably won't do anyway), which is just a general legal requirement for societies.  Even if you did breach the UNYANZ constitution (which you won't), the worst thing that would happen would be that your membership could get terminated.  So don't worry - you can't, don't, and won't lose anything.

By joining UNYANZ, you'll open opportunities for what you can do.  But you don't have to do anything.  We hope and expect, however, as we're proud of our events, that you will want to.
